Minnesota Music

In honor of my trip up to the old haunts this week, I'll feature a couple of artists from the Twin Cities.

Brother Ali- Badass albino hip-hop.

Jeremy Messersmith is getting a ton of plays on CIties 97 in Minneapolis right now since his song 7:02 was featured on Cities Sampler Vol. 20. I've read he is an "upbeat Elliot Smith."

Pumped to drive around in my rental and listen to MPR: The Current and Cities 97.

Daft Punk Does Lex

I could not resist this.  Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer Women's Fashion Show in Paris.  Guy and Thomas remix a set that climaxes with a mash-up of Lex by Ratatat and Technologic.  All this before the grand finale where they go after what is basically their own: Stronger by Kanye.

You probably know Ratatat from "17 Years" featured in an old Hummer commercial.  With a song called "Lex" and another called "Wildcat" (off the Classics album), I was sure that they had Kentucky ties.  No such luck- they're from Brooklyn.  Anyway, these dudes are awesome on their own, but it seems to me that Daft Punk could remix Maura's karaoke and make it a winner.  I haven't even mentioned the YouTube Vuitton models.

Here's the full track list from the fashion show mix:

01 Aerodynamic - Daft Punk
02 Human After All - Daft Punk
03 Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - Daft Punk
04 Sexual Sportswear (SebastiAn Remix)
05 Da Funk - Daft Punk
06 Touch It - Busta Rhymes
07 Lex - Ratatat
08 Stronger - Kanye West

New Winter Album

This is getting tons of pub on iTunes and Little Joy's self-titled debut definitely worth a listen. It's a great winter album- I can see it being the 08-09 version of what Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago was for me last winter in St. Paul.
